September began with an overnight stay in Macao with the whole tribe. That was too short for me and I returned on 1 November with Pat of Pak Hei Marine Products for a business trip, and stayed on for a couple of nights at my favourite hotel (now called Grand Coloane, but known to taxi drivers only by its old name of Westin) for sheer relaxation.
In early November, my step uncle Andrew Chee (brother of my now deceased stepfather John) visited Hong Kong for the first time in many years and we caught up at a buffet in the YMCA (yes, really).
Alas my diet had by now collapsed and rather shamefacedly I began to concede that losing weight would have to be a resolution for 2019 as well. Pulling in the opposite direction, plans are now well advanced for my 70th birthday party!
Another visitor was old friend and former colleague David Webb and his wife Goldie, the one-time socialist now a wicked landlord living back in England.
